Hiking - With over 13 miles of trails, there are options for hikers with all levels of experience. These trails go through dense woods, river bluffs and meadows across the park.
Caving - Meramec State Park is home to over 40 different caves, all of which have naturally occurred. Several of the caves can be toured with a guide and others are open to visitors own personal exploration.
Camping - The state park has sites for all forms on camping, whether it be for tents or campers. Several sites throughout the campground come with electricity/water connections and reservations can be made in advance. Amenities such as bathrooms and showers are also available in all campgrounds in this park.
Fishing - With the Meramec river flowing through the center of the park, it is a popular fishing spot among anglers. Smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, brown trout and rainbow trout are all found in the river. The river itself has countless fishing spots, due to its extensive shoreline.
Canoeing - Due to the clear water and steady current, canoeing down the Meramec is one of the most popular activities in the park. Canoes can be rented either inside the park or from local businesses in nearby Sullivan, Missouri.
Swimming - The river is also a popular place to swim. Whether visitors are just looking to take a quick dip or to utilize the river's steady current for a float trip it is the perfect place to cool off.
Meramec is one of Missouri’s 87 state parks, located in the St. Louis region. Located just outside of the town of Sullivan, the 6,896 acres is located just 60 miles from downtown St. Louis.
Nearing its 90th birthday, the park was founded as part of a project by the U.S. Corps of Engineers on the Meramec river basin.
As part of a unique ecosystem, the park is home to extensive hardwood forests and open plains. There also is a wide variety of geology, including limestone caves and dolomite bluffs.
