Putting on a concert at Lindenwood

Preparing the floor

The process of converting Lindenwood's Hyland Arena into a concert venue began by covering the floor. The polished hardwood floor, which normally serves as a court for the university's basketball and volleyball teams was shielded with rubber sheets. The covering served as protection for the delicate playing surface, protecting it from the equipment set on top of it and outside foot traffic.

Assembling the stage

The stage was set up by members of the tour's production company in an effort that lasted around four hours. The stage floor was the first piece to go up and plywood was placed under the framework to provide extra protection for the court underneath. Soon after the stairs and catwalk were added, followed by the curtains and backdrop.

Unloading the truck

The tour's crew members, along with several Lindenwood student volunteers spent just over three hours removing the bands' equipment and taking it into the arena. Rolling cases, lighting tresses and steps were just a few of the items that were unloaded.

Once the semi-truck was unloaded, the student volunteers began to assemble the bands gear. Under the instructions of the tour's crew they put together riser platforms, stage lighting and several other components that would be used in the concert later that evening.

Hooking up the power

The most import portion of the set up was ensure all of the equipment received power. Instruments, amps, microphones, soundboards and lights all combined into one central power unit to create a cluster of cords. The unit drew power from a large mobile generator located in the arena's parking lot.

LU students sing along

The doors to the venue opened an hour before the 7 p.m. show, allowing spectators to find a spot in the general admission setting. Students and members of the St. Charles community filled the floor of the arena as well as the bleachers on a first come, first serve basis. Throughout the evening the crowd sang along and danced to the music from the three bands that performed.

Country music star, and headliner Lee Brice was the last performer of the evening. The South Carolina native visited Lindenwood as part of his spring tour, which included performances at several college campuses across the country. Performing hits including "Love Like Crazy" and "Parking-lot Party", Brice energized a crowd filled with Lindenwood students and members of the local community.

Orange Grove, Texas native Chase Bryant kicked off the evening at Lindenwood as the opening act of the concert. Preforming the hit single "Take It On Back", the frontman and his band riled up the crowd.

As part of Spring Fling Week at LU, the Campus Activity Board in partnership with the Scheidegger Center hosted a country concert in the Hyland Arena on April 17, 2015. The concert, featuring headliner Lee Brice and opening acts The Cadillac Three, and Chase Bryant visited St. Charles as part of a tour, which included stops at several college campuses across the country. LU students were provided a unique oppertunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at a concert and assit the crew in the lenghty process of preparing for a show.
